This map accurately depicts the major streets and highways, parks, coastlines, and physical features of Los Angeles using nothing but type. Every single piece of type was manually placed, a process that took hundreds of hours to complete.
From the Hollywood sign and downtown Los Angeles, to the tip of Rancho Palos Verdes and Long Beach, a map of Los Angeles is stitched together from thousands of manually-placed words and letters. The Pacific Ocean, home of some of the best surfing in the world, gets prime of place with its very own Wingdings surfer dude. The Beach City areas of Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach also make an appearance. LA's famous highways are shown in bold purple lettering.
The map is based on place names and geography as they appear in Open Street Map.
